Glasgow Botanic Gardens is renowned for its range of glass houses and its tropical and temperate plant collections. The Kibble Palace is an iron glass house of international importance. The glass house plant collections include tropical orchids, begonias and tree ferns, while in the grounds there is a large collection of mature trees including a 200 year old Weeping Ash and a large black oak. Outside there are also herbaceous borders, a rose garden and a herb garden.
During the summer months, as part of the West End Festival, the Botanic Gardens is home to outdoor performances of Shakespeare's plays by the Glasgow Repertory Company. The Bard in the Botanics festival is the only such outdoor festival organised in Scotland.
