Each year during the month of August, Glasgow rings out with music during the annual World Pipe Band Championship. This event has been running since 1930 and the formation of the Scottish Pipe Band Association. The whole event is squeezed into a single day of piping, usually at Glasgow Green. Hundreds of bands attend each year from all over the globe. The highest and most prestigious award is Grade One, and previous winners come not only from Scotland, but also from Canada, Northern Ireland and Australia. An average 40,000 spectators throng the city to attend this spectacular musical event.
